What Is a Vehicle Power of Attorney?
A Vehicle Power of Attorney is an official notarized document authorizing the vehicle owner to appoint an agent to handle vehicle-related transactions before RTA and registration centres.
It is a special POA because it identifies the vehicle precisely and lists the powers granted, making it practical for owners who have left the UAE or cannot attend RTA centres personally.
In Dubai, ownership transfer usually requires the parties to attend an RTA centre. A vehicle POA allows the agent to complete the transaction on behalf of the owner.
What Can the Agent Do?
- Sell the vehicle and sign sale documents
- Transfer vehicle ownership before RTA
- Renew vehicle registration or Mulkiya
- Clear traffic fines and Salik charges
- Deal with vehicle insurance matters
- Export the vehicle outside the UAE
- Represent the owner before RTA and registration centres
Important: For transfer, all traffic fines and Salik dues must usually be cleared and buyer insurance must be valid. The POA must identify the vehicle accurately by make, model, chassis/VIN and plate number.
